This class will be a mixture of live demos during the zoom and prerecorded videos for the class to watch during the week. The live zoom will be recorded and available to watch over and over.
I feel that online classes are very equalizing, people can work in their own studios at their own pace. We are all working from the same reference and so there is no bad angle of the model.
The class will meet live for 5 Mondays 12 - 2:30 pm (eastern standard time)
There will be a 15 minute break at 1:30. Each class Scott will share his works to demonstrate different ways of approaching narrative ideas.
During the week students can email their homework to Susan for personal critiques.
Topics that will be worked on
Photoshop - How Scott and I use Photoshop everyday in our studio.
Simple tools that we use to fix our reference photos
Simple tools we use to fix the photos of our paintings to share on Socials or for competitions
Choosing value and color harmonies
Lighting of Models- the Class will be working from references that Susan offers. Each week the class will practice from different ways to light a model in a scene
Over head lighting
Double light
Sargent lighting
Up lighting
Art Materials we can’t live without
There are no silly questions, we want you to feel free to ask about anything. We are totally honest about the ups and downs of being a self employed artist. There will be parts of the class when Susan and Scott talk about their experiences with galleries, competitions and traveling as an artist. We hope to offer tips that we have learned over the years, we want you to learn from our mistakes.
We want you to ask questions anytime during the class. It will be a back and forth, Susan wants to take time to invite students to speak live and make it more interactive. If you can’t make it to the live zoon, please email her questions and she will answer them during the next class.
Each week Susan will upload new videos of demos that pertain to the lesson for the next week.
During the live zooms she will talk about the approach for that week showing masterwork examples and having a Q&A for a bit to go over ideas and answer questions.
Susan will do short demos during class explaining that week’s lesson.
Feel free to be a fly on the wall and just watch with your camera turned off.
Once you are registered for the class you will receive a supply list and all of the links to the zoom classes. Each week you will receive a link to a new video demonstration to watch at your own leisure during the 5 weeks.

I suggest having a variety of small to medium brushes. It’s good to have a mix of the Ebony, Eclipse Long Hair, Sable Blend, Evergreen, Ivory
it will be easier to have smaller brushes to work on the face. It will be good to have a fan brush or big Eclipse Long Hair to work on the hair and background
Sizes # 2- 12

More than anything, WE WILL have fun painting, experimenting, and creating!
